We left Ticonderoga at 6:15 this morning and drove a good share of the day as our plans were to spend some time in Hershey, PA. We were about 45 minutes from Hershey, PA when we got a flat tire on our rental car. How about that - we bicycled over 2000 miles and the only flat tire we got this year was on our trailer and then we get a rental car that has less than 10,000 miles on it and we get a flat tire. The car had a good spare so John replaced it and while he was doing that I spent the time trying to get a hold of Hertz to see where we could pick up another spare tire. Well, after pressing, 1, 2, etc, etc. I finally got someone on the line and they said we couldn't get a spare tire we would have to go to the nearest Hertz office and pick up a different rental car. So we ended up driving another 2 hours to the Hertz office and spent about 1-1/2 hours there just exchanging the car and unloading our bike and everything else and repacking it in another car. By then it was really to late and we were already passed Hershey so we just continued on and got a hotel in Breezewood, PA.
We went to Subway for dinner and then to the laundromat to wash clothes. Tomorrow morning we are going to go to 10:00AM mass and then take our time driving to Pickerington, Ohio to spend two nights with Marilyn and Gary Solomon!
Won't be long now and we will be home!

July 1st, 2011 - Bar Harbor, Maine to Ticonderoga, NY
We left Bar Harbor around 5:30 and followed the Adventure Cycling Map back to North Woodstock, NH. When we had bicycled up the Kancamagus Pass we were not able to get any decent pictures due to the rain and fog so we had decided that we wanted to go back that way in hopes the weather would be better. I will try to post some pictures in the next couple of days.
June 30th, 2011 - Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, Maine
The alarm went off at 4:00AM this morning as we planned on going down to the Bar Harbor Pier and watch the sun come up. Unfortunately it was so foggy you couldn't see much of anything. However, we still went down to the pier and it was so interesting as the fisherman were loading up there boats to go out lobster fishing. We spoke with several of them and it was quite fascinating to talk with them and see all the lobster cages and items that they use when they go out to set there traps.
Afterwards we decided to drive around the entire island and stopped at one of the beaches and walked along the shore line and picked up some shells and rocks. Around 10:00AM we went back to the hotel and showered and cleaned up and then we hopped in the car and took a tour of Acadia National Park. Wow, it is such a beautiful area and the shore line is breathtaking. I am enclosing pictures that we took today and hope you enjoy them as much as we did taking them. If you have never been to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park I would strongly recommend that you put it on your bucket list of things to do! Beautiful area!

A fishing boat coming towards the pier to load up there gear! |
The first boat loading up there gear - they bring it to the pier in there truck and then scoot it down the aisle to the dock below and then load everything on the boat. |
This was one of the pickup trucks with buoys and ropes on that were taken down and put on the boat! |
This fisherman was going to go out and set traps today! The back of his boat were just full of them. I think he said he had about 300 traps that he was going to put out today! |
