Total miles biked today is 57 miles - beautiful sunny day and we were able to do a lot of biking in the shade and relatively flat terrain.
After having done 5 days of strenuous and tough biking in the mountains we felt that we owed ourselves a day to sleep in and a day of biking at a more relaxed pace. We got on our way about 8:30 this morning and headed to Sedro-Woolley. On our way we stopped in Concrete, WA at a Saturday market and visited with some of the locals and limited our purchase to a 1/4 lb of walnuts. They were quite curious and asked a lot of questions about our adventure. The terrain today is flat and the majority of the time we were biking along the Skagit River and in heavily wood area with very little traffic. We had Haystack Mountain and Iron Mountain to the south and Lyman Hill and Goat Mountain to the north. What amazing scenery we have seen since we started this adventure.
We arrived in Sedro-Woolley early afternoon and had lunch and then checked into our motel. We immediately checked to see if there was a Saturday afternoon/evening mass that we can go to today. We tried calling the church but did not get an answer so we hopped on the bike and headed to where the church was. It was 3:00 and church started at 5:00 so we went to a car lot to see what they had for a small truck. John has decided that he would like a truck and we thought that as long as we needed a way to get home that we should look around to see what we could find. It is either purchase a truck or take Amtrak back to Wisconsin as Kathi refuses to bicycle back home. lol On Thursday when we did Loup Loup Pass and we were sitting in the backyard of our hotel discussing how we were going to get home John said, well we could bicycle home and I started to cry. It had been a tough day of biking and I was obviously exhausted and couldn't even imagine having to do that.
Long story short - we are now owners of a 2007 silver Chevy Colorado light duty pickup.
Tomorrow we will bicycle our 30 miles to Anacortes and dip our tires in the ocean and celebrate. We are going to check into taking a ferry to San Juan Islands and possibly a ferry up to Vancouver, BC. On Wednesday or Thursday we will bicycle back to Sedro-Woolley and pick up our truck and then drive to Oregon to visit Ryan and Darcy in Eugene (they don't know that yet) and then drive to Ashland to spend a few days with Don & Cathy before we head back to Wisconsin.
Happy trails!
Total miles biked as of today is 2,891 miles (yes, two thousand eight hundred and ninety one miles)
We have a slow internet hookup tonight so I will have to upload pictures at our next hotel.

On an adventurous trip such as yours it occurs to me that it is far better to buy the truck than to buy the farm ;--)

What can I say? You two are my free spirit heroes!! Kathi, I would break down and cry at the thought of making that trip back home, too. I have thought several times during your trip that Mom and Dad and I am sure Kathi's parents as well would have gotten a kick out of your adventure.
