Parkers Prairie to Pelican Rapids, MN - day 18

Mileage for today was 75 miles with sunny skies and excellent biking weather.

We left Parkers Prairie about 6:45AM after having breakfast at a little cafe (RC Cafe & Catering) with all kinds of 50's memorbilia hung on the wall. It was a neat little place and the friendly owner came over and chatted with us.

From there we headed west to Urbank, Clitherall and then we stopped in Edwards (Population 4) at a little bar & grill out in the middle of no where and had an excellent lunch. This was an old school house that had been converted to a bar in the late 60's. The father of the man that owned the bar came and spoke with us and shared a few of his stories and really was an interesting funny old timer. One of the things that he told us was: He had recently celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary and someone had asked him how he has managed to stay married for so long. His reponse was: "For his 35th wedding anniversary he took his wife to Hawaii and for his 50th he went back to pick her up". lol He also said that he would have loved to invite us to his home this evening to visit with his wife but they had plans. He was a very nice old timer and we enjoyed our visit with him.

While we were there someone had mentioned that Hwy 3 was under construction and recommended an alternate route. When we got to this intersection, where the construction started, they were tarring the road we were suppose to go on so we took the detour. It really didn't take us but about 2 miles out of our way. It certainly beat getting tar all over us and our bike and BOB. This is the first detour that we have taken because of road construction.

We arrived in Pelican Rapids about 2:00 and we stopped at a Dairy Queen to celebrate our 1000 mile mark that we reached today. 18 days of biking and we have biked over 1000 miles now. We then went to the drug store because John wanted to pick up some type of a decongestant as he has gotten a little bit of a cold.

After checking into our hotel, a hot shower, and John napped while I called home we biked back into Pelican Rapids to see if we could find a North Dakota map and then went out to eat at a Mexican Restaurant.

Total miles bicycled in 18 days is 1005 - YES YES YES - we are tickled and pretty dang proud of ourselves. lol
