Medora to Deadwood - June 13th

Even with the luxury of being able to sleep in for a change we were both up and anxious to get going by 7:00AM. Spending time in Medora yesterday brought back a lot of fond memories for both of us from when we were on our honeymoon. One place in particular that we looked for was an old western bar we had gone into that had a rough hew wooden bar rail with all kinds of coins pounded into the cracks and peanut shells on the floor and wooden sidewalks out front etc etc. It was a really neat place with a lot of character. Well, it is now a pizza parlor, like Kathi said, you can't go back. Your much better off holding onto old memories and keep moving forward.

We hadn't been on the road a half hour this morning when we both agreed this traveling by car is downright boring! It looks like we picked the right time to rent a car as we drove in rain a good share of the day and it continued to rain after we go to Deadwood. The first thing Kathi wanted to do was go to the Mount Mariah Cemetery where Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane are buried, doesn't take a lot to intrigue us! We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening wandering around the casinos and shops of Deadwood. Overall it was a rather uneventful day for us. Our evening meal was an all you can eat prime rib buffet at the Silverado Hotel.
