Ione, Washington to Kettle Falls, Washington - day 41

Total miles biked today is 57 miles - when we started out this morning it was foggy and overcast but as the day went on the skies turned to a beautiful blue with very few clouds.

We left Ione at 6:30AM and after biking about 5 miles out of Ione we started our climb into the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. Today's climb is just a warm up for the more serious climbs to come in the next 5 days. Our climb was approx. 1500 feet over a course of 5 miles. Once we got to the top the rest of the ride was fairly easy and very scenic. We stopped at Crystal Falls and met a couple and their son from British Columbia. We asked if they would take our picture and we returned the favor and took their picture for them. We arrived in Colville about 11:00AM and stopped at Mr. Subs for lunch. After lunch we biked the final 10 miles to Kettle Falls and checked into our hotel.

Tomorrow will be the true test - the biggest climb of our trip. We are expecting about a 25 mile uphill climb of about 4200 feet. The plan is to hit the road early and hopefully fog will not settle into the mountain to hinder us. I am sure that we are both going to be very tired tomorrow night.

Life is good!
